Hogan Household – New family member

New addition to the house

By colhogan3

I love dogs.  Puppies are cute.  Last June, Duffy, our 15 year old Wheaton Terrier died.  That left 4 year old Bennie (Cocker Spaniel) to rule the roost…until last Saturday.

“What’s this!”  I exclaimed as my step-daughter walked into the house with a 8 week old SCHNOODLE (part Schnouzer and part poodle).   “Where’s your mother!”  I bellowed.  Not wanting to acknowledge this new “temporary” member to the family.

Scout

So now that some time has gone by, this little thing is greeting me at the door wagging his elongated tail, he waits for me, he jumps on me…wants to cuddle on my lap…blah, blah, blah.   I thought I was done with the baby phase, then puppy phase…diapers, accidents on the wood floors, rugs ect…ect.

But Scout is Elisa’s dog…going back to school in July when she returns to her off-campus apartment….that means we get to raise Scout while she’s studying abroad this semester in Australia…. hmmmm.

Then does this mean when Scout leaves, someone in the house is going to want to replace him with another little cuddly, cute puppy?????

  1. Kevin, about a year ago a similar situation happened here in our home. Only we had not lost a dog. My daughter decided we needed to add a 3rd, yes I said 3rd dog to our mix. We had a pure breed golden and a mini-schnauzer at the time. At the time we also had 3 cats. So adding another furry friend was the last thing on our minds. My daughter comes home with this mutt of a dog. He is an american bull-dog, pitbull, charpaei and lab mix. He was very skittish and was very apparent he had not been well taken care of. Did he ever stink. Needless to say, three baths later and with some work as far as touching and showing him love he has become a member of the family. We had a some trying times with the other dogs. Now they all seem to get along well and I have told my daughter when she mentions moving out that Bo is staying in his home. She goes Mom he is my dog. Good luck and hope things go well. Enjoy. I think inside the dang dogs know what to do to get to our heart strings and tug a bit. ….
